The Future of Electric Vehicles and
the Battery Manufacturing Industry

Ever present and on the horizon, is the global shift from non-renewable energy sources to electric and battery powered forms of energy and how that will be incorporated into our everyday lives. On the forefront of this shift, is the change from internal combustion engines to the environmentally friendly electric powered vehicles (EVs). It is estimated that by 2030, around 40% of all new vehicles sold will be EV. With this shift comes the need for more battery manufacturing plants fit to fill this new need in the market.

One of the first of its kind currently being built, the BlueOval SK Battery Park in Glendale, Kentucky. This $5.8 billion dollar manufacturing center will provide Ford Motor Company with all of the resources to power their EVs.

Not only will this twin battery manufacturing plant help power the future of vehicles across the globe, but also bring jobs to the heart of the Midwest. It is expected that nearly 5,000 jobs will be created as a result of Ford expanding their EV development.

Always seeking to be an innovator and leader in the world of new technology, ABEL Construction – a long time partner in building auto manufacturing plants, is taking the step into the future of EVs and sustainability by teaming up with other some of the best and brightest construction experts in the region. ABEL is once again proving their value to the project teams and to our client, Ford Motor Company.

Production of the advanced lithium-ion batteries stemming from the new plants is slated to begin in 2025 and will generate 43 gigawatt hours each – or 86 gigawatt hours total – per year of U.S. production capacity for Ford as they begin to ramp up their EV technologies for the changing market conditions.
