The Future of the Industry Electric Vehicles & Battery Manufacturing

Ever present and on the horizon is the global shift from non-renewable energy sources to electric and battery-powered forms of energy, and how this integrates into our everyday lives. At the forefront of this shift is the change from internal combustion engines to environmentally friendly electric vehicles (EVs). By 2030, around 40% of all new vehicles sold are EVs. With this shift comes the ongoing need for more battery manufacturing plants designed to meet this growing demand in the market.

The Future of Electric Vehicles & the Battery Manufacturing Industry

Abel Construction

One of the first of its kind currently being built is the BlueOval SK Battery Park in Glendale, Kentucky. This $5.8 billion manufacturing center provides Ford Motor Company with the resources needed to power their EVs.

Not only does this twin battery manufacturing plant help power the future of vehicles across the globe, but it also brings jobs to the heart of the Midwest. Nearly 5,000 jobs are being created as a result of Ford expanding its EV development.

Always seeking to be an innovator and leader in the world of new technology, Abel Construction—a longtime partner in building auto manufacturing plants—takes the step into the future of EVs and sustainability by teaming up with some of the best and brightest construction experts in the region. Abel once again proves its value to the project teams and to our client, Ford Motor Company.

Production of the advanced lithium-ion batteries from the new plants begins in 2025 and generates 43 gigawatt hours each—or 86 gigawatt hours total—per year of U.S. production capacity for Ford as the company continues to ramp up its EV technologies to meet changing market conditions.
