As an ISO 9001:2015 registered company, Abel Construction’s safety standards reflect its commitment to quality, integrity, and excellence. The company’s philosophy—Total Prevention through Planning, Accountability, Training, and Education—is a foundational value that guides daily operations.

Abel Construction Safety Philosophy

  1. Training & Certification
All field superintendents are required to complete the 30-hour OSHA Construction training and be certified in First Aid and CPR. Additional site-specific training is provided as needed, and all superintendents undergo compliance training.

  2. Employee Orientation & Substance Policy
All employees and craftspeople receive safety orientation upon hire and must maintain a current drug-free certification. Random and post-incident substance abuse testing is conducted across the company.

  3. Oversight & Management
All safety and compliance training is conducted by Abel’s Safety Professionals and managed by the Director of Safety, with oversight from senior leadership.

  4. Daily & Weekly Safety Briefings
Superintendents conduct daily pre-shift safety briefings and lead weekly safety meetings focused on hazard recognition and mitigation.

  5. Recognition & Incentives
Superintendents and field employees are recognized quarterly and annually for maintaining injury-free workplaces and fostering safe environments.

  6. Accountability & Culture
Any compromise of Abel’s safety culture is promptly addressed. Penalties for unsafe behavior range from written warnings to termination.

  7. Site Audits & Compliance
Project sites are regularly audited by Safety Professionals. Findings are reported to Executive Management, and any non-compliance must be corrected immediately with preventive actions implemented.

  8. Subcontractor Standards
Subcontractors must meet strict qualifications, including a review of their past three years’ incident and experience modification rates. They are also required to submit proof of proper training for all personnel.

  9. Subcontractor Compliance
Ongoing audits of subcontractors ensure that hazardous conditions or practices are promptly corrected. Before starting work, all subcontractors must sign Abel’s Safety Addendum, committing to OSHA standards and any additional company-specific safety rules.

  10. Authority to Stop Unsafe Work
Every Abel Construction employee—including subcontractors—is empowered with the Authority to Stop Unsafe Work. Each team member carries a “Safety Coin”, a daily reminder of their duty to protect one another and uphold the company’s safety culture.
